BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Indian Path Pavilion To Close
Indian Path Pavilion To Close
Indian Path Pavilion will be closed within the next 2 months.
Indian Path Pavilion in Kingsport offers mental and substance abuse services to patients. On Friday Mountain States Health Alliance announced that this facility will close.
“It became apparent that we could no longer sustain two inpatient facilities 26 miles apart and after looking at the financials it became apparent that we needed to close Indian Path Pavilion,“ said Ann Fleming, Mountain States Health Alliance senior vice president.
Now, patients who received care at Indian Path Pavilion will be treated at Woodridge Hospital in Johnson City. 114 people work at Indian Path Pavilion. Fleming said efforts will be made to move as many of these employees to other positions within the company. Fleming said state funding cuts are a big reason why they are closing Indian Path Pavilion.
“It started about a year ago with the decrease in reimbursement from TennCare and the reimbursement issues that’s facing us all as part of healthcare reform,“ Fleming said.
Fleming also told 11 Connects that closing Indian Path Pavilion will not affect patient care.
“Behavioral services is a very needed service in this region, we know we are the primary provider for that, it is our mission to serve the citizens in our area for behavioral health services, but we wanted to be able to do it in a way that we could sustain it into the future,“ said Fleming.
All mental and substance abuse services at Indian Path Pavilion will be consolidated to Woodridge Hospital over the next two months.

The vast majority of docs order what they deem medically necessary. They want to avoid getting sued. When I first started as a nurse (10 years ago) a plain xray for an injury was perfectly acceptable. But now an xray is basically worthless. Patients want a CT scan. The pictures are better but it comes with a price.
However the patient doesn’t want to pay 8,000 or more for a scan. So who ends up paying for it?
I can almost guarantee this….When insurance companies start cutting reimbursement. Hospitals will cut staffing and wages of bedside nurses. Those nurses will leave. The nursing shortage is critical NOW. The community hasn’t seen nothing yet.
Here is another issue. People abuse the ER. The majority of what I see in the ER could wait for their primary physican. However they don’t have a primary doc because of lack of insurance coverage or the docs office’s reimbursement has been cut to the bare bone.
Here’s an example of an ER bill. I have a specialty in nursing. I evaluated a 4 year old child last year. The total ER bill was $427. Tenncare paid $27.08 I make more per hour. How are facilities supposed to survive? Does this child need health care…absolutely. But who pays for it?
Of course insurance companies make money…but considering the governments track record with Medicare/VA system. Could they do any better?
bs nurse
Imagine docotrs and nurses being paid a lot more when all the people who provide no medical care or support for the medical teams no longer get any health care dollars.
Imagine doctors ordering test that will make a difference instead of those the insurance company want done !!!!

A Harvard Medical School study showed that only 1 in 14 people who have a medical malprastice dlaim ever file a law suit.
Don’t belive all the BULL that the insurance industry spews they have an agenda ! To protect their HUGE PROFIT MARGIN!
You can sit around and gripe about the economy and whose fault it is all you want. But you’re missing the point here. There is a SEVERE shortage of affordable mental services in this area to begin with, and closing the Pavillion is going to have an immediate and drastically detrimental effect on an already terrible situation. There is literally an army of “walking wounded” around here (to which the crappy economy has contributed), and help is almost impossible to find. God help you if you don’t have insurance or TennCare. This is just tragic.
I have to agree with swampgirl on this one. The problems with health care started long before Obama took office. There is no denying that the economy has taken a toll on the healthcare industry. I work in healthcare and see the effects it has had on individuals, co-workers, and the hospital where I am employed. I also see the wasteful spending of administration. Purchacing illuminated computer keyboards, flat screen plasma tv’s for patient’s rooms, etc. All the while telling their employees that their hours will be cut to reduce costs, laying off staff only to overwork the rest, and enacting a hiring freeze. The bigger issue isn’t that the economy is the reason behind Indian Path Pavilion closing. Just take a drive by the new hospital that Mountain States Health Alliance is building in Johnson City and you will see why Indian Path Pavilion is shutting it’s doors.
First our thoughts are with the employees of this location. The positive thing is that the majority of them due to their training and education will be able to find more work.
Our country has a mess on its hands with the health care.
Lots of things contribute to this.
1. Illegial aliens going to and not being denied service-driving up the costs for everyone.
2. people that have medicare, etc that go to the doctor for every sniffle that they get.
3. sleazy lawyers that are like ticks out there pushing law suits.
4. doctors in bed with pharmacists and their companies pushing too many prescriptions on people.
5. More common sense regulations that oversee medical costs so they are not absurd. I have no problem with doctors, etc making a large income for their much needed services. I just don’t like paying for their mercedes benz on each visit.
For all that want obamacare you need to really look into the countries that have socialized medicine already. Those countries are going bankrupt faster than we are and many of them are reversing the socialized approach.
Yes we do need changes but when you take out the competitiveness of doctors offering services or schools that teach our children you are asking for big trouble.
Why are you blaming Obama? The article states that this action started about a year ago with TennCare cuts. Obama had nothing to do with that.
THE WORLD WANTED OBAMA, THEY GOT HIM !!
PLEASE GOD—————HELP OUR COUNTRY !!!!
By the time Obamas’ term is ended, the people that voted for Obama seeking change will get more change than they can stand and it won’t be the kind of change they were looking for !!! The massive bailouts haven’t helped anything and if they have, what are they. A health program overseen by the government will be another government mess. I can at least say that I didn’t vote for Obama, I have a clear conscious…
Let’s maintain the “status quo.“ We don’t want the government, who we expect to operate in the best interest of the individual, to be insure my health interest. We want “Wall Street” (insurance companies) who have the primary interest of profits.
If someones health care is going to cost too much insurance companies will deny coverage or cancel the policy all together.
What a wonderful job companies have done and operated in the best interest of the citizens of the U.S.
ENRON, MCI, AIG, the S&L’s during the bailouts, banks and risky loans, credit card companies, etc…Etc…ETC!!!
You “conservative talk show, pablum puking people” seem to have more concern for “Wall Streets” profits than your own health care best interests.
