A recent state audit by the Tennessee Comptroller’s office found several problems with the Watauga River Regional Water Authority.

From July 1, 2006, through March 31, 2007, auditors found the water authority’s executive director’s salary was at least $11,000 more than it was supposed to be.
The audit found in 2007, that director took in $65,975, the approved salary was $54,600
The water authority says its director’s current salary is $61,800. Because of the mistake, the director has agreed to repay the more than $4,000 that person is currently being overpaid.

The authority, which helps bring water to some areas of Carter County, is funded by customer surcharges.

Not to sound too cynical, but might it not be a good idea to have a public audit of all communities’ executives like this to check on such?
