A Southwest Virginia National Guardsman was injured in Iraq Monday.

A roadside bomb exploded next to the humvee driven by Sgt. Joe Santolla from Lebanon, Virginia in Basra Monday.
Santolla’s wife says he is recovering from a concussion and flash burns to his right eye.

Santolla is a member of the 229th Military Police Company from Stanton, Virginia but has been deployed with the 266th MP’s out of Roanoke.

In civilian life Santolla is a special agent with the Virginia State Police.
He and wife Jeanetta have a 12 year old daughter.
