Three Tri-Cities High school students won’t walk across the stage and graduate with their classmates.
The three Volunteer High School students were caught on camera throwing water balloons at school.
The school principal told us the students weren’t just throwing them at each other, they were aiming the balloons at teachers.
The school has banned the students from commencement ceremonies, but they will be able to pick up their diplomas at a later date.
Find out why the principal thinks the punishment fits the crime tonight at 6.

Where is your since of humor? I know they shouldn’t be throwing water balloons at school but pull up your big girl panties and get over it. These kids are just over it and just trying to make it through the next few weeks. These kids have worked for 12 years to get to this point…....LET THEM WALK ACROSS THAT STAGE…..THIS IS CRAZY….PRINCIPAL, I GUESS YOU FORGOT WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A KID.
There wouldn’t be anything wrong with having a water balloon fight at school, and that shouldn’t prevent graduation - BUT they were specifically aiming them at teachers. It’s rude to begin with - I would be pretty upset if I was hit with a water balloon without being told so first. Now, I believe in good, clean fun and probably wouldn’t mind if someone told me beforehand that there was going to be a water balloon fight. I’m sure the boys didn’t mean any harm. I don’t think the punishment should prevent them from walking across the stage at graduation, though. Isn’t that a bit deep?
Question to Mom of two boys - where do you work at? I can’t imagine a place of business allowing this type of behavior! I work with the public and would be dismayed if my business contacts allowed this kind of behavior.
You need to think about the consequences before you do it. So is it okay to aim a water balloon at a teacher? What’s next?
I feel the punishment fits the crime!!!!
This principal must feel that it was a life and death matter for a teacher to get hit by a water balloon?? You know - they are seniors - was anyone hurt? I don’t feel that the punishment fits the crime. It’s ridiculous for the students to be deprived of receiving their diploma for throwing water balloons. I work in an office and our employees here throw water balloons to surprise other employees going outside - and it’s all in good fun. Ease off principal - let the young adults receive their diploma with the others and admit the foolish decision you have made and make light of the situation! This is the same as two 5 years olds holding hands and the parents yelling sexual harrassment.. things have gotten way out of hand. It’s time people started getting told to suck it up and deal with life and quit taking things to the extreme.
Sincerely,
Mom of two boys ages 16 and 13!!!
