Lincoln Theatre To Kick Off Winter Gala
On Saturday, Jan. 31, The Lincoln Theatre in Marion will host a fundraising gala to start festivities for the 5th anniversary of the theater’s reopening.
Once left to ruin, Lincoln Theatre was acquired in the late 1980s. After years of community and corporate fundraising—and a huge community volunteer effort—the beautifully renovated theater reopened as a performing arts facility. This year marks the fifth year of the theater being fully operational, according to a news release from the theatre.
Since May 2004, the theater has presented more than 200 performing arts events, helped civic organizations to raise thousands of dollars for community service projects, served as the backdrop for visits by the governor of Virginia and the European Union Ambassador and hosted events for thousands of schoolchildren. Hundreds of tourists are drawn to the theater each month for “Song of the Mountains,” The Lincoln Theatre’s bluegrass concert series, which is taped and broadcast on more than 160 public television stations nationwide, the release says.
The Winter Gala will be held at Hemlock Haven Conference Center at Marion’s Hungry Mother State Park from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. The event will feature tables of gourmet food, an open bar, live music by Montage (with dancing), raffle drawing for an art quilt donated by Sylvia Richardson and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items, including a banjo donated by Deering Banjo Company.
Tickets to the event can be purchased by calling (276) 783-6092 or online at http://www.thelincoln.org. The Lincoln Theatre is non-profit organization, and a portion of the ticket price is considered a tax-deductible donation.
