BOYS HOOPS: Hash leads Bulldogs over Blues

Blake Hash gunned in 20 points and John Walker added 18 to lead Tazewell to an 81-74 win over Richlands on Tuesday night in the first round of the Region IV, Division 3 boys basketball tournament.

The Blue Tornado held a 37-29 halftime lead, but the Bulldogs erupted to outscore Richlands 30-17 in the third quarter en route to the win.

Jalen Jordan had 15 points for Tazewell and Noah Walker added 14. Ben Brown led Richlands with 30 points and Devon Johnson collected 21.

Tazewell (12-12) will play Abingdon (10-14) tonight at 7 at Marion High School in the regional semifinals. The winner earns a bid to the Group AA state tournament.

REGION D, DIVISION 1

Twin Valley 71, Rye Cove 41

Daniel Hobbs collected 17 points and Chance Moore added 16 to lead Twin Valley to a win over Rye Cove.

Twin Valley jumped out to an 18-6 first-quarter lead, but the Eagles came right back and trailed at the half, 25-24.

The Panthers caught fire in the third quarter to outscore Rye Cove 22-7 in breezing to the win.

Clintwood 60, Council 54

Robbie Mullins and Dalton Dahley both tallied 18 points to lead Clintwood to a win over Council.

Mullins also had 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Greenwave.

Jay Mathis led the Cobras with 14 points.

Thomas Walker 72, Ervinton 46

Gabe Kersey delivered 15 points and Cody Bryant added 13 to lead Thomas Walker to a win over Ervinton.

The Pioneers led by 11 at the end of three quarters, but erupted in the fourth to outscore the Rebels 25-10.

Devin Rose led Ervinton with 14 points.

REGION C, DIVISION 1

Bland County 75, Rural Retreat 47

Asher Dillow poured in 26 points and hit five of the Bears’ nine 3-pointers in a win over Rural Retreat.

Darrell Clark added 24 and Chase Hankins put in a dozen.

Jay Linkous’ 12 points led Rural Retreat.

REGION D, DIVISION 2

Lee 70, Eastside 61

Adam Pendleton set the pace with 18 points while teammates Josh Lawson added 14 and Dustin Powers 13 to power Lee to a win over Eastside.

The Generals held an advantage on the boards, outrebounding Eastside 34-23.

Forrest Lunsford led the Spartans with 15 points as Derek Clark and Tony Gibson each added 13.

DISTRICT 1-AAA

CONSOLATION GAME

Tennessee High 57, Dobyns-Bennett 50

Nathan Terrill tallied 17 points and Austin Delph added 13 to help lead Tennessee High to a win over Dobyns-Bennett for third place in the district tournament.

The Vikings held a slim 26-25 lead at the half but outscored D-B over the final two quarters, 31-25, for the win.

The Vikings will visit Morristown East in the Region 1-AAA tournament on Saturday while Dobyns-Bennett makes the trip to Sevier County.
