East Tennessee State University shot just 27 percent from the floor for the game and scored only 17 points in the first half in dropping a 54-46 Atlantic Sun Conference game to Mercer on Monday in Macon, Ga.
Despite the poor shooting, ETSU (12-11, 6-6) led 14-13 with 8:02 left in the first half but Mercer (19-7, 11-2) went on an 11-3 run to close out the half.
The Bucs trailed 37-34 with 7:20 left in the game, but Mercer went on an 8-0 run to build a 45-34 lead with 5:15 remaining en route to the win.
VI’s Morris nabs league award
Justin Morris has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference’s player of the week after leading Virginia Intermont to a pair of wins, including an upset of crosstown rival King College.
Morris poured in 42 points against the Tornado and finished the week with 92 points in three games.
The junior guard ranks second in the AAC and seventh in NAIA Division II with a season average of 21.2 points per game.

Converse shocks Tornado
King College suffered what could be a costly road loss Monday, falling 60-59 to Converse in a Conference Carolinas matchup.
Jana Gross, who recorded three steals in the final 1:27 to help King go on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 58, had a chance to tie the game again after she was fouled at the buzzer, but she hit just 1 of 2 free throws.
Chelsea Rivers recorded the game-winning points for Converse when she hit a jumper with four seconds remaining.
Kelly Jackson recorded her second straight double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Tornado.
King had obliterated the Valkyries 64-38 when the teams met earlier in the season in Bristol. The Tornado (4-17, 4-9), which remains winless on the road for the season, now leads Converse (3-18, 3-9) by just a half-game in the league’s West Division for the final spot in the eight-team conference tournament.
