Milligan splits with Reinhardt

The Milligan College men’s
basketball team came up short in AAC action on Thursday night as they fell
83-71to Reinhardt University inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

 

   After Reinhardt opened
the scoring with a jumper, Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) responded with a 3-pointer to spark the Buffaloes on an 8-0 run. The Eagles responded with an 11-3 run of their own to take a 13-11 lead midway through the half.

 

   The teams traded shots
over the next five minutes before Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Torian
Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C)
hit jumpers to give Milligan a 26-25 lead with
six minutes left on the clock. However, Reinhardt jumped back to take a 37-33
lead into the half.

 

   Grisby led the way in
the half with 12 points. As a team, Milligan was 9-of-21 (47%) from the floor
and 4-of-10 (40%) from behind the arc. The Eagles ended the half 15-of-32 (47%)
from the field and 3-of-11 (27%) from the 3-point line.

 

   The Buffaloes opened
the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 41-39 lead, but Reinhardt battled back
to take a 49-45 advantage five minutes into the period. Milligan responded with
a jumper plus one from Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) and buckets from
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) and DeVault to regain the lead just
past the midpoint of the half.

 

   However, Reinhardt
responded as they ran out to an eight point lead with just under five minutes
left. The Buffaloes cut the gap with five straight points from DeVault, but was
unable to get back in front before time expired.

 

   DeVault finished the
game with 20 points, while Grisby tallied up 14 points. Woods recorded 12
points. Sitton ended the night with 10 points. As a team, Milligan was 23-of-50
(46%) from the field and 4-of-14 (29%) from the 3-point line. The Eagles
finished 27-of-56 (48%) from the floor and 6-of-19 (32%) from behind the arc.

 

   With the loss, Milligan
falls to 4-8 in AAC action and 8-14 overall.

 

  
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday Feb. 4 against Bryan College inside
the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.

The Milligan College women's basketball team gained an
impressive 67-55 AAC victory over Reinhardt University inside Steve Lacy
Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

 

   Milligan opened
the game quickly as they took a 6-0 in the first two minutes of the game.
Reinhardt responded with a run of their own as they pulled within two. The
teams traded that baskets until Reinhardt took a slim lead with 6:20 left in
the half, but Milligan quickly regained the lead with a shot from Alisha Mainer
(Flag Pond, Tenn.). The teams traded shots as the Buffaloes maintained a 30-28
lead going into half.

 

   Mainer recorded
10 points in the period to pace Milligan. At the half, the Buffaloes were
9-of-28 (31%) from the floor, and the Eagles were 11-of-25 (44%) from the
floor.

 

   In the second
half, Milligan came out strong with a 7-0 run. The Buffaloes quickly extended
the lead to double-digits, a gap they maintained for most of the half.
Reinhardt tried to cut the gap with a late run, but the Buffaloes held them off
to take the victory.

 

   Mainer had 14
points, while Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tallied up 12 points. Dorian
Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) and Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) ended the game
with 10 points and eight points, respectively.

 

   As a team, the
Buffaloes ended the game 21-of-54 (39%) from the floor and 5-of-15 (33%) from
behind the arc. The Eagles ended the game 20-of-54 (37%) from the floor and
4-of-14 (29%) from the 3-point line.

 

   With the win,
Milligan improves 6-7 in AAC action and 14-11 overall.

 

   The Buffaloes
return to action on Saturday Feb. 4 against Bryan College inside the Steve Lacy
Fieldhouse.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
