New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw will attempt to hold the Vince Lombardi Trophy in his grasp for the second time on Sunday as he starts in Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
Bradshaw has made plenty of postseason memories dating back to his days starring at Graham High School.
The following is a look at how the former G-Man, now playing for New York’s G-Men, has fared on the biggest of stages:
GRAHAM HIGH SCHOOL
2000
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, 1st Round, Gate City 37, Graham 25: Freshman Ahmad Bradshaw does most of his damage on defense, but led by quarterback Shawn Hutchins, the Blue Devils post a win at famed Legion Field.
2001
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, 1st Round, Graham 65, Laurel Park 18: Bradshaw reaches the end zone three times, including an 85-yard touchdown reception courtesy of quarterback H.T. Matthews in the second quarter.
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, Finals, Graham 45, Grundy 14: Bradshaw hauls in a 72-yard touchdown reception on the second play of the game and the blowout is on. He also tacks on a 20-yard TD run.
Group AA, Division 3 Playoffs, Semifinals, Graham 56, Liberty-Bedford 14: Bradshaw collects his 20th touchdown of the season with a 6-yard gallop to the end zone in the second quarter. The sophomore finishes with 77 receiving yards and 22 rushing yards.
Group AA, Division 3 Championship, Harrisonburg 24, Graham 10: Bradshaw and Graham’s state title hopes are dashed on the artificial turf at Liberty University’s Williams Stadium. The offense is slowed as Bradshaw has six carries for 12 yards and one reception for 56 yards.
2002
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, 1st Round, Graham 35, Patrick County 14: A 143-yard, two-touchdown performance is delivered by Bradshaw on the ground as the G-Men roll.
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, Finals, Grundy 21, Graham 14: On a brutally cold night at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, Bradshaw rushes for 122 yards and also returns a punt for a touchdown. However, Grundy gets fourth-quarter TDs from Dillon Reece and Justin Hipps to pull off the upset.
2003
Region IV, Division 3 Playoffs, 1st Round, Graham 49, Martinsville 10: It’s another productive night at the office for Bradshaw as he racks up 216 rushing yards on 25 carries and accumulates four touchdowns.
Region IV, Division 3, Finals, Graham 32, Grundy 7: Bradshaw and his teammates exact revenge from the year before, eliminating the Golden Wave from the playoffs. The junior does it all – two touchdown runs, one TD reception and a punt return for a score.
Group AA, Division 3 Playoffs, Semifinals, Gretna 34, Graham 22: The final game of Bradshaw’s prep career ends with a loss, but he does haul in touchdown receptions of 40, 58 and 24 yards. Another Virginia High School League legend, Gretna’s Vicqual Hall, rushes for 135 yards and passes for 273 more.
MARSHALL UNIVERSITY
2004
Fort Worth Bowl, Cincinnati 32, Marshall 14: In the only bowl game of his collegiate career, Bradshaw is held in check. The freshman manages just 5 yards on six carries and one reception for a single yard. The game-time temperature is 28 degrees in front of a small crowd in Texas in late-December.
NEW YORK GIANTS
2007-08
NFC Playoffs, 1st Round, N.Y. Giants 24, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14: As a rookie in his first career playoff game, Bradshaw gains 66 yards on 17 carries and catches one pass for 9 yards.
NFC Playoffs, 2nd Round, N.Y. Giants 21, Dallas Cowboys 17: Thirty-four rushing yards and 6 receiving yards is what Bradshaw manages as New York wins on the road for the second straight week. The game features three local players as running back Julius Jones (Powell Valley) and Jason Witten (Elizabethton) see time for the Cowboys in the contest.
NFC Championship Game, N.Y. Giants 23, Green Bay Packers 20: An overtime win in storied Lambeau Field keeps Bradshaw and the Giants’ improbable postseason journey alive. Bradshaw gains 63 yards on the ground and scores his first (and to this point only) professional postseason touchdown when he reaches the end zone from 4-yards out in the third quarter. He also has one catch for 9 yards.
Super Bowl XLII, N.Y. Giants 17, New England Patriots 14: In one of the biggest upsets in NFL history, the Giants knock off the previously unbeaten Patriots. Bradshaw gains 63 yards on 14 carries and catches five passes for 22 yards. The rookie rushed for at least 34 yards and caught at least one pass in each of New York’s four playoff victories.
2008-09
NFC Playoffs, 2nd Round, Philadelphia Eagles 23, N.Y. Giants 11: After receiving a first-round bye, the Giants are outplayed by Philadelphia. Bradshaw sees minimal time and doesn’t get a carry.
2011-12
NFC Playoffs, 1st Round, N.Y. Giants 24, Atlanta Falcons 2: Bradshaw gains 63 yards on 14 carries and catches five passes for 22 yards.
NFC Playoffs, 2nd Round: N.Y. Giants 37, Green Bay Packers 20: Bradshaw rushes for 63 yards, while also supplying 21 receiving yards. His key 24-yard gain sets up a touchdown pass right before halftime.
NFC Championship Game, N.Y. Giants 20, San Francisco 49ers 17: Against a vaunted San Francisco run defense, Bradshaw churns out 74 yards on 20 carries and catches six passes for 52 yards. His runs of 8, 6 and 4 yards set up Lawrence Tynes’ game-winning field goal in overtime.
