Former Virginia High star Justin Grimm tossed six sharp innings in helping the Myrtle Beach Pelicans claim a 4-1 victory over the Kinston Indians in Game 1 of their Carolina League semifinal playoff series.
Grimm allowed one run on four hits en route to earning the win. He walked four and struck out six.
The first-year pro went 5-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 16 starts for the Pelicans during the regular season.
Former University of Virginia star Tyler Cannon went 0-for-4 for Kinston. Cannon, who lives in Washington County, Va., in the offseason, struck out twice against Grimm.
