COLLEGE TENNIS: Bartlett no longer coach at King

»  Comments | Post a Comment

King College men and women’s tennis coach Chris Bartlett is no longer in his position, said the school’s sports information director Gene Renfro in an e-mail message Tuesday afternoon.

Bartlett, who was in the midst of his fifth season as the Tornado coach, has been replaced by Greg Lumb on an interim basis, Renfro wrote.

Bartlett is the third King coach to leave in recent months as men’s soccer coach Matt Lavinder and track and field coach Johnny Bomar also departed this school year.

Lumb was previously in an “assistant coach role” with the team under Bartlett, according to Renfro’s message.

According to the main King College website, Lumb also worked in the school’s financial aid office.

Renfro did not immediately respond to additional e-mail inquires concerning if Lumb would remain in his financial aid job, why Bartlett departed and when the coaching change took place.

A Jan. 31 news release from the school regarding the upcoming spring season, however, still listed Bartlett as the head coach of both King tennis teams.

The King men and women are scheduled to begin their spring seasons today with matches at Wofford.

Bartlett also did immediately return messages seeking comment about his departure.

Bartlett led the men’s squad to a 5-0 mark during the fall 2010 campaign, while the women’s team was 4-1 in the fall.

Lumb played college tennis at Milligan from 1993 to 1997 and, Renfro wrote, “has worked with local tennis pros at Glen Rochie, the Ridges, Ridgefields and the Country Club of Bristol during tennis seasons” in recent years.
