Jeremy Hall will experience a homecoming of sorts this weekend.
The former Daniel Boone High School and East Tennessee State University star is scheduled to start on Saturday for the Montgomery Biscuits against the Tennessee Smokies in Sevierville, Tenn.
Hall has emerged as one of the top pitching prospects in the Tampa Bay Rays’ farm system and is 4-5 with a 3.35 ERA in 17 starts this season for the Biscuits.
Hill on the hill
Left-handed pitcher Nick Hill (Sullivan East) is 0-1 with one save and a 7.71 ERA in 11 outings for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, the Class AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
He earned his first save on June 28 against the Tennessee Smokies.
Barker’s Bat
Virginia High graduate Kevin Barker is hitting .288 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs through 75 games for Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz of the Mexican League.
Byrne notice
Chas Byrne has been the most valuable member of the Burlington Royals’ bullpen.
The former Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University standout is 0-0 with two saves and a 0.69 ERA in six outings.
On Sunday, he pitched the final four innings to notch the save in Burlington’s 2-0 Appalachian League victory over Princeton.
News on Nidiffer
Marcus Nidiffer went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs on Sunday in Bluefield, continuing his torrid pace for the rookie-level Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League.
The Tennessee High graduate is hitting .333 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 18 games.
Cannon Ball
Former University of Virginia shortstop Tyler Cannon is hitting .210 with 11 RBIs in 16 games for the short-season advanced Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Cannon, whose parents live in Washington County, Va., was in an 0-for-16 slump before going 1-3 with a triple and RBI on Sunday.
Mahoning Valley is a Cleveland Indians’ farm team.
Milligan man
Pitcher Mike Gallo (Milligan College) is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA in five appearances for the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Nationals.
