RICHLANDS, Va. – Richlands outscored Virginia High in every quarter to coast to a 77-33 non-district boys basketball win on Tuesday night.
The Blue Tornado (14-3) hit 10 3-pointers and were led by Gunner McGee’s 23 points.
James Patton and Devon Johnson also reached double figures for Richlands, with 10 points apiece.
Clintwood 58, Burton 35
Cameron Vanover scored a game-high 24 points to guide the Greenwave to a Lonesome Pine District win over J.I. Burton.
Sawyer Turner paced Burton with 16 points.
Chilhowie 69, Holston 44
Rhett Sturgill poured in 22 points as Chilhowie used strong defense in the first and fourth quarters to claim the win.
Austin Pote also chipped in 11 points for the Warriors.
Cody Hawkins had 12 points for Holston.
Castlewood 51, R. Cove 30
Castlewood improved to 9-1 in the Cumberland District with the win over Rye Cove.
Aaron Kennedy scored 16 points for Castlewood, now 16-4 overall.
Appalachia 59, J.J. Kelly 40
Appalachia (17-2, 7-2) shot 53 percent from the field en route to the Lonesome Pine District victory over J.J. Kelly
Forest Stewart supplied 14 points, six steals four blocks and four rebounds for Appalachia, while Tyler Hall added 16 points.
No player reached double figures for Kelly (10-10, 5-4).
Powell Valley 54, Pound 41
Sam Vaughn collected 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks in Powell Valley’s Lonesome Pine District win over Pound on Tuesday.
Ryan Hubbard added 15 points for the Vikings (18-2, 8-1).
Josh Lowe scored 17 points in the Wildcats’ loss.
Honaker 70, Council 58
Honaker had a whopping 12 3-pointers in Tuesday night’s Black Diamond District clash to help it power past Council.
Ethan Davis collected 17 points (three 3-pointers), 8 assists and 6 rebounds for the Tigers. Blake Gent had 18 points, 15 of which were 3-point goals. Cory Brown added 16 points (three 3s) in the win.
Shane Presley (19 points) and Chris Tiller (20 points) led for Council.
T. Valley 49, Hurley 33
Josh Smith scored 16 points to guide Twin Valley to the victory
Daniel Hobbs and Brandon Viers added 10 points apiece for Twin Valley.
Hurley led 21-17 at halftime, then TV put together a 15-3 spurt in the fourth quarter.
T. Walker 49, Ervinton 43
Thomas Walker held Ervinton to 10 points in each of the final three quarters to pick up a Cumberland District win.
Ryan Scott led the Pioneers with 15 points as Thomas Walker rallied from a two-point halftime deficit.
Caleb Breeding had 24 points for the Rebels.
GIRLS
Powell Valley 51, Pound 39
Tasha Trent recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Vikings to a Lonesome Pine District win.
Lauren Schoolcraft added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Powell Valley.
Samantha Balthis had 16 points for Pound, including the Wildcats only four 3-pointers.
Castlewood 52, R.Cove 44
Haley Gilbert collected 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Blue Devils stopped Rye Cove in a Cumberland District game.
Nicole Counts added 10 points and six steals for Castlewood.
Christi Hood paced Rye Cove with 13 points.
Chilhowie 68, Holston 29
Krystal Patton scored 20 points to lead Holston to a Hogoheegee District home win.
The Warriors led 32-16 at halftime and continued to extend their lead throughout the game.
Holston’s high-scorer was Kelsey Arrington with 12 points. It was the 100th consecutive loss for the Cavaliers.
Kelly 69, Appalachia 27
Allison Mullins scored 20 points and Andrea Hopkins added 15 in J.J. Kelly’s victory
Kelly (15-5, 6-3) took an 18-6 lead after the first quarter.
Tri-Cities 50, Cedar View 39
Carol Hensley led Tri-Cities Christian (12-8) to a win over Cedar View on Tuesday night with 14 points.
Brittany England had 10 points in Cedar View’s loss.
Honaker 52, Council 23
Rachel Artrip helped Honaker (10-9, 5-2) dominate Council with her 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Kelsey Geary led with 11 points for Council (4-15, 1-6) in the loss.
T. Valley 39, Hurley 22
Rachel Horne and Katie Jo Lester each snared 10 rebounds as Twin Valley won the Black Diamond District game.
Lester paced all scorers with 26 points.
Ervinton 71, T. Walker 44
Chelsea Hill scored 17 points and Ervinton crushed Cumberland District rival Thomas Walker and remained tied atop the district standings.
