PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Richlands falls to rival Graham

RICHLANDS, Va.David Marrs led a balanced Graham attack with 20 points and the G-Men earned an important 71-66 Southwest District boys basketball victory over Richlands on Monday night.

Scott Brewster added 17 points for Graham, while Ryan Woodson and Jordan Bryan scored 10 points apiece.

Austin Johnson (16 points), Eric Mulkey (15 points) and Blake Tatum (10 points) also scored in double figures for Richlands. Southwest District scoring leader Gunner McGee of
Richlands was limited to nine points, 11 below his average.

Richlands (10-3, 8-3) hosts non-district rival Virginia High tonight.

Grundy 71, Marion 45
John Kelly and Ben Rife each had double-doubles as the Grundy Golden Wave got the best of the Marion.
Kelly collected 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Rife recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Matt Noe led Marion with 20 points.

George Wythe 82, Northwood 35
Andrew White led four George Wythe players in double figures with 15 points and the Maroons remained unbeaten with a easy Hogoheegee District road win.
Kenneth Waugh added 14 points for GW, while Tristan Tyler Akers (13 points) and Tristan Boysaw (12 points) also keyed the victory.
Trevor Hagen led Northwood with 13 points.

Hurley 49, Pound 32
Tyler Cooper (15 points) and Austin Cooper (11 points) led Hurley to a non-district win over visiting Pound. The Rebels built a 31-10 halftime lead and never looked back. They also avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats.

North 68, Tri-Cities 54
Despite a 19-point, 10-rebound effort from Drew Davenport, Tri-Cities Christian lost to to Sullivan North.
Michael Freeman added 10 points and nine rebounds for TCC. North used a 19-8 run in the second quarter to take control.

Rural Retreat 62, Holston 43
Rural Retreat grabbed a home Hogoheegee District win over Holston on Monday night.
Matthew Thompson and Trey Huffard had 14 points a piece in the victory for the Indians (6-10, 4-4).
Ethan Price led for the Cavaliers with 18 points.

TACA 59, Cedar View 43
Jacob Morton scored 17 points and Tennessee Avenue Christian Academy topped Cedar View.
Jason Pugh (15 points), Patrick Gallagher (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Josiah Morton (12 points) also led the way for TACA, while Hunter Vernon pulled down 12 rebounds.

East hosts Unicoi County
Sullivan East will host Unicoi County tonight in a make-up game that has major implications. East currently leads the Three Rivers Conference and can extend its lead in the standings to two games with a win.
The boys game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m., following the girls game, which starts at 6:30.

PREP GIRLS
Northwood 49, Holston 44
Sophomore Chelsey Cardwell hit 5-of-6 free throws in the fourth quarter, helping Northwood hold off an upset bid by Hogoheegee District rival Holston.
Cardwell finished with 15 points and was the only Northwood player to score in doubel figures. Faith Ritchie led Holston with 15 points, while Taylor Doss added 11 points.

Richlands 60, Abingdon 52
Cassie Ringstaff recorded 16 points and Richlands held off Abingdon for a Southwest District victory.
Megan Robinson added 13 points for the balanced Blue Tornado attack, which saw eight players reach the scoring column.
Lauren Wilson hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Abingdon.

Grundy 43, Marion 39
Loni Webb scored 17 points, including the final 10 of the first half, as Grundy defeated Marion in Southwest District play.
Taloni Dalton and Maranda Hayden each scored 10 points for Marion.

Daniel Boone 47, Volunteer 42
Natalie Sheffey had 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals as Daniel Boone downed Volunteer for a Big Eight Conference win.

Tri-Cities 60, Sullivan North 40
Carol Hensley scored 20 points and Beka Leuzinger added 15 points and 10 rebounds in Tri-Cities Christian’s victory over Sullivan North.
Hensley also had eight rebounds as TCC improved to 11-8.
