FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A milestone victory helped Emory & Henry College remain unbeaten on Saturday afternoon.
E&H won its 500th game in program history with a 28-3 non-conference victory over Methodist.
The Wasps (4-0) are off to their best start since 1998 and all four of their victories have come against opponents from the USA South Conference.
E&H also became just the seventh school from the state of Virginia to win 500 football games. The others are Virginia Tech, Virginia, William & Mary, Hampton, Virginia State and Virginia Union.
A strong defensive effort and another nice performance by running back Caleb Jennings made it possible. The E&H defense held Methodist on downs four times inside their own 20-yard line and three times inside the 11.
Shane Wicks led the Wasps with 12 tackles, while Jazmenn Gaston intercepted a pass.
Jennings rushed for 144 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns to lead the offense, while Javon Lucas also ripped off a TD run.
A junior, Jennings has rushed for 521 yards and scored seven touchdowns in the first four games.
E&H quarterback Drew Piscopo completed 10 of 15 passes for 110 yards and a TD pass to Brian Bush. Josh Castle led the Wasps with three receptions for 20 yards.
E&H is off next week, before hosting Hampden-Sydney on Oct. 10 in a crucial Old Dominion Athletic Conference clash.
