Seven months after playing a starring role in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl victory, former Honaker High School star Heath Miller picked up right where he left off.

Miller tied a career-high with eight receptions in Pittsburgh’s 13-10 overtime victory over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday. In fact, his eight receptions led all NFL tight ends in week one.

Miller’s last eight-reception game came Dec. 21, 2008 against the Tennessee Titans.

Witten Reaches Milestone
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (Elizabethton) reached a personal milestone on Sunday in a 34-21 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished with five receptions for 71 yards, surpassing the 5,000-yard receiving mark for his career.

In 96 professional games, Witten has caught 434 passes for 5,006 yards.

Jones Runs Wild
Powell Valley High School graduate Thomas Jones rushed for 107 yards on 20 carries and scored twice for the New York Jets on Sunday in their 24-7 victory over the Houston Texans.
His 38-yard touchdown run with 10:10 remaining in the fourth quarter was his 50th career rushing TD.

Other Jones Runs Wild
Thomas Jones’ younger brother and fellow Powell Valley graduate, Julius Jones, also opened the season in style. He had 117 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown for the Seattle Seahawks in their 28-0 win over the St. Louis Rams.
He also caught two passes for 19 yards.

Big Day for Bradshaw
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (Graham) was impressive in the New York Giants’ season-opening 23-17 victory over the Washington Redskins. He rushed for 60 yards on 12 carries and also caught three passes for 11 yards.

Strong Sensabaugh
Gerald Sensabaugh’s debut with the Dallas Cowboys produced mixed results.
The former Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State University star started at safety for the Cowboys in their win over Tampa Bay and collected eight tackles and blocked a field goal.
However, he injured his ribs after a violent collision with Tampa Bay wide receiver Michael Clayton. Sensabaugh is expected to play on Sunday night against the Giants.

Ex-Hilltopper has two tackles
Defensive lineman Aubrayo Franklin (Science Hill) had two solo tackles for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in their win over the Arizona Cardinals.
