COLLEGE FOOTBALL: UVa.-Wise looks to go out on positive note

Bristol Herald Courier
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will not make the NAIA national playoffs this fall. However, the Highland Cavaliers still have a lot to play for.

UVa.-Wise (5-5) can secure its fourth straight winning season today with a win at Faulkner (Ala.) University in its regular season finale. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.

The Cavs will look to bounce back from a 38-21 loss to the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) last week that cost them the Mid-South Conference East Division title and a postseason bid. They are a heavy favorite against a Faulkner team that is just 1-9 and has struggled to keep teams out of the end zone.

It will be the final game for 15 UVa.-Wise seniors, including local products Brad Robbins (Powell Valley), Brad Ricker (John Battle) and Lance Ayers (Carroll County).

In his first and only season as UVa.-Wise’s starting quarterback, Robbins has thrown for 2,747 yards and 20 touchdowns.
