BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Sullivan East senior shortstop Tyler Gaby said the pressure is off. And Gaby is backing up his words with his bat.
Gaby went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs Wednesday evening, leading the Patriots to a 10-2 victory over the Daniel Boone Trailblazers in a Big Nine Conference contest at McKamey Field.
Two weeks ago, Gaby said he was feeling the pressure of signing a college scholarship. Milligan took the weight away. Now, Gaby said he is back to doing the simple things, like seeing the ball and hitting it. And as Gaby locks in, the Patriots are elevating their game.
“I just go up to the plate relaxed now and do whatever I can to help my team out,” said Gaby, who also closed out the seventh inning for Sullivan East, helping starter Desmond Greer pick up the win. Greer threw 6 2/3 innings of six-hit ball, allowing two earned runs.
David Allison added a 2-for-4 outing for the Patriots (4-6, 2-5 Big Nine), while Nick Jones led Boone (8-2, 6-2) by going 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Sullivan East coach Jim Breuninger said Wednesday’s victory was an important win for a Patriots squad that had been struggling.
“We finally put a complete game together,” Breuninger said. “This is the first game that I feel like we hit the ball well, we pitched well and we played good defense.
“I think this game is going to do a lot for our confidence.”
