There's a new book out, that you might want to consider as a stocking stuffer, as we get closer and closer to christmas and it's written by a Kingsport native.
Beryl Shipley who was born in Kingsport has a book out called "Slam Dunked".
Shipley became head coach of Southwestern Louisiana Institute, which is now Louisiana - Lafayette, during a time when athletics were off-limits to blacks, but Shipley quickly changed that and battled racism, however it didn't stop him from becoming one of the winningest coaches in the school's history.
Sixteen years after his inaugural game, and 425 games later, Shipley held 296 victories and 129 losses for a .696 win percentage to earn the title "winningest coach in USL's 100 year history".
