COLLEGE FOOTBALL: E&H Wins In Overtime On Saturday

LEXINGTON, Va. — Luke Hawk’s 35-yard field goal in overtime gave Emory & Henry a 17-14 Old Dominion Athletic Conference road victory over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.

E&H (5-4, 3-2) overcame an early 14-0 deficit, forced overtime and then prevailed in the extra period.

Washington and Lee (4-6, 1-5) got the ball to begin overtime, but Generals quarterback Charlie Westfal was intercepted by E&H’s Aaron Hall on the first play from scrimmage. After an incomplete pass, the Wasps gained seven yards on two carries by Caleb Jennings in the extra session

On 4th down, Hawk trotted onto the field and booted the game-winner.

Jennings had another big game for the Wasps, finishing with 304 all-purpose yards. The former Richlands High School carried the ball 39 times for 203 yards and a touchdown, caught three passes for 19 yards and compiled 82 yards in punt returns.

Wide receiver Jonathan Hawkins scored the game-tying touchdown with 14:53 left as he caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brent McDonald.

Meanwhile, the E&H defense limited Washington and Lee to 171 yards in total offense. Matt Baldwin led the Wasps with 10 tackles and forced a fumble. Meanwhile, Cameron Chaney and Kevin Worley each had nine tackles.

Stu Sitterson scored both touchdowns for Washington & Lee, which led 14-0 with 8:43 left in the first half. However, the lead didn’t hold up.

Emory & Henry closes out the regular season next Saturday at home against Guilford.
