BRISTOL, Va. — Three Bristol White Sox pitchers combined on a five-hitter and the usual suspects led the team at the plate in a 4-2 Appalachian League victory over the Johnson City Cardinals on Friday night at DeVault Stadium.

Bristol (14-11) extended its winning streak to three games and remained entrenched in second place in the Appy League’s West Division.

The Sox excelled in all phases of the game on Friday.

First, there was the pitching. Starter Gregory Infante (2-1, 2.36 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Meanwhile, relievers Brett Graffy and Kevin Asselin closed out the gem.

Graffy worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings, while Asselin struck out two in a scoreless ninth en route to his sixth save.

Bristol managed eight hits – all singles – but it proved to be enough.

Jordan Kendall, Jorge Castillo and Andrew Garcia each had two hits in the victory. Castillo, a first baseman, has been Bristol’s most consistent hitter this summer and raised his batting average to .374.
Kendall (.338) and Garcia (.322) aren’t far behind and both boosted their averages on Friday.

And on top of that, Bristol played flawless defense and did not commit an error.

Brett Lilley and Nico Vasquez each had two hits for Johnson City. The bad news for the Cardinals was that Travis Mitchell’s triple was the only other hit they mustered due to Bristol’s strong pitching performance.

Bristol closes out its three-game series with the Cardinals tonight and the game will feature the popular Merchant’s Night. A large number of prizes will be given away that have been donated by area merchants.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good seat and to review the list of businesses that have given away tickets to the game.

Elizabethton 9, Pulaski 0

Elizabethton starter Bobby Lanigan and three relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Twins cruised past the Pulaski Mariners at Joe O’Brien Field.

Lanigan (2-1, 2.74 ERA) struck out eight in seven dominant innings. He allowed just three hits. Kyle Carr and Mark Hamburger closed out the victory with flawless relief.

Evan Bigley and Dominic De La Osa homered for the Twins, who lead the Appy League’s West Division.

Greeneville 10, Bluefield 0

Kyle Greenwalt continued his dominance of the Appalachian League as the Greeneville Astros got the best of the Bluefield Orioles.

Greenwalt (4-1, 3.68 ERA) allowed just two weak singles in his six strong inning sof work. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Burlington 4, Kingsport 3

For the second straight night the Appalachian League’s worst team, the Burlington Royals, earned a victory over the Kingsport Mets.

Josh Vittek’s two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Burlington (9-21) the extra-inning win.

Barry Bowden (2-0, 0.69 ERA) got the win in relief.
