NEW YORK — Billy Wagner and the New York Mets’ bullpen shined on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Wagner picked up his 22nd save of the season in 28 chances and also notched his 380th career save as New York continued its hot streak.
A former star at Tazewell High School, Wagner pitched a flawless ninth inning by getting Clint Barmes to ground out, striking out All-Star Matt Holiday and getting Garrett Atkins to line out to third baseman David Wright for the final out to secure the victory.
The Mets close out the first half of the season tonight against Colorado. Wagner and Wright will represent the Mets in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star game.
