GRENEEVILLE, Tenn. — Frank Almonte had two hits , including a two-run home run, as the Greeneville Astros collected a 5-4 Appalachian League victory over the Bristol White Sox on Saturday night.
Greeneville jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then withstood a late Bristol rally to hold on for the victory. It was the second straight night, the Astros defeated the BriSox by one run.
Second baseman Andrew Garcia had two hits and drove in a run to lead Bristol (10-9) at the plate. Justin Greene, Shaydron Buckridge and Kenneth Gilbert also had RBIs in a losing effort.
Left-hander Garrett Johnson (1-1, 3.54 ERA) allowed three runs on five hits in five innings of work to suffer his first loss of the season. He walked one and struck out six.
Bristol scored four runs against Greeneville reliever Wander Alvino, but Nathaniel Pettus got the final two outs for his third save. Starting pitcher Luis Crz (1-1, 1.59 ERA) was credited with the win after five dominant innings of work.
The two teams will close out their three-game series tonight in Greeneville. Bristol returns home on Monday to face the Danville Braves, who share the lead in the Appy League’s East Division.
