GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Pinch-runner Jay Austin scored on Elbert Rosario’s single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, giving the Greeneville Astros a 7-6 Appalachian League victory over the Bristol White Sox on Friday night.
The loss overshadowed a special night for Bristol catcher Kevin Dubler, who pounded the first home run of his professional career.
Justin Greene, Jordan Kendall, Jorge Castillo and Juan Silverio each had two hits to lead Bristol. The Sox scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a brief 6-3 lead. The highlight of the explosive inning was Dubler’s three-run homer with one out off Greeneville reliever Colton Pitkin.
However, Greeneville scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at six and the teams played to a deadlock until the 11th.
Brett Graffy (0-2, 4.00 ERA) allowed Rosario’s game-winning hit and was charged with the loss. Justin Kuehn pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and was the lone bright spot for a Bristol pitching staff that allowed 16 hits.
It was Bristol’s first completed game since last Saturday as rain had wreaked havoc on the team’s schedule in recent days.
