Chris Mobley struggled earlier this season in his brief stint with the Class AAA Albuquerque Isotopes. Since returning to the Class AA level, it’s clear that the pitcher has regained his focus.

The former Dobyns-Bennett High School star has converted seven straight save opportunities for the Carolina Mudcats and has been selected to compete in the Southern League All-Star game.
Mobley is 3-1 with 14 saves and a 2.80 ERA in 31 games at the Class AA level and opponents are hitting just .223 against the right-hander. The 24-year-old Mobley has been almost untouchable as of late.

As for the All-Star selection, it’s the second of Mobley’s career. He was a South Atlantic League All-Star in 2005.

Carolina is a Florida Marlins’ minor league affiliate.

Allen Update
Eric Allen had an impressive relief stint for the Arizona League Cubs on Tuesday.

The former Sullivan Central High School and King College standout threw two shutout innings out of the bullpen in the Cubs’ loss to the Padres’ Arizona League affiliate.

Allen allowed two hits and struck out one in his second professional appearance.

Allen’s former King teammate — pitcher Jace Smith — is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two outings for the Arizona League Royals.

Hill on the Hill
Left-handed pitcher Nick Hill (Sullivan East) made his third appearance for the Class AA West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx on Monday, retiring two of the three Chattanooga players he faced.

Shaun Cumberland reached on an error to begin the eighth inning against Hill, Justin Turner laid down a sacrifice bunt back to Hill to advance Cumberland. Hill then struck out Daniel Dorn, before being taken out of the game.

Hall Watch
Former Daniel Boone High School and East Tennessee State University pitcher Jeremy Hall is 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) this season for the Low-Class A Columbus (Ga.) Catfish of the South Atlantic League.
Columbus is a Tampa Bay Rays affiliate.

Major League Members

--- New York Mets closer Billy Wagner earned his 19th save of the season and 377th of his career on Tuesday night by working a perfect ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wagner is currently sixth on the career saves list and surpassed Jeff Reardon earlier this season for that spot. The former Tazewell High School star needs 14 more saves to surpass Dennis Eckersley’s career total and to move into fifth on the all-time list.
--- Former John Battle High School star Jimmy Gobble allowed one run on two hits in an inning of work on Tuesday night for the Kansas City Royals in their loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
The left-hander threw two scoreless innings against St. Louis on Sunday and is 0-2 with a save and a 7.40 ERA in 27 relief outings this season for the Royals.
