A couple of weeks ago, in a somewhat quiet sort of way, we started something new here in the Tri-Cities.
When a sick child does reach that stage, the family may be confronted with another roadblock.
The first reason and the one of greatest interest to me personally, is simply to honor and acknowledge the history of the people who were here before Europeans arrived in the Americas.
Many efforts are under way to get younger students interested in science and math. One example is the Tree of Life’s online "treehouse" project, a collection of information about biodiversity compiled by hundreds of experts and amateurs. Students can use this tool to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the world around them. The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s Syria could be similarly ominous for Iran.
Searching for the right words to condemn slavery, Thomas Jefferson called it an “abominable crime,” a “hideous blot” and “moral depravity.” Yet he owned slaves all his life.
God knows what has become of the religious right.
I can’t speak for Michelle Obama, but call me an angry white woman. If the first lady isn’t angry, she certainly has every right to be.
