A Rogersville woman was arrested Friday for allegedly attempting to bring a number of prescription pills into the Hawkins County Jail, according to information released today by Sheriff Ronnie Lawson of the Hawkins County Sheriffs Department.
Reports state that on the morning of Jan. 28, Debra Sue Rogers, 43, of 139 Forest Road, Rogersville, was reporting to the Hawkins County Jail. Rogers had previously turned herself in for other charges in which the court had ordered her to pull a jail sentence. Rogers's earlier charges were also for the introduction of drugs into a penal facility.
When Rogers reported to jail on Friday, corrections officers say they were taking inventory of the woman's property. At that time, a plastic baggie fell from a folded shirt.
Officers state the baggie contained loose tobacco, cigarettes, rolling papers, a lighter, along with an assortment of pills. When officers discovered the pills, they called in a narcotics officer to help identify them.
The narcotics officer identified one pill as a Carisoprodal which is generic for Soma and a schedule IV controlled substance. The officers then identified a yellow pill as a Clonazepam which is a generic for Klonopin and also a schedule IV controlled substance. The officer also recovered a corner of a plastic baggie that was tied and contained what appeared to be crushed up pills that was later identified as crushed up Oxycodone pills. Oxycodone is a schedule II controlled substance. In the same plastic baggie, the officer recovered numerous clear capsules containing an unknown grayish colored substance.
Reports indicate that Rogers claimed ownership of the illegal substances and she was charged with possession of a controlled substance inside a penal facility (3 counts); possession of Schedule II controlled substance (Oxycodone); possession of Schedule IV controlled substance (Carisoprodol); possession of Schedule IV controlled substance (Clonazepam) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All recovered substances have been sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for Analysis.
Rogers was placed under $100,000 bond by Judge Kindell Lawson and remains lodged in the Hawkins County Jail at time of press release.
