The St. Clair family received a little surprise to start the New Year – a seven-pound baby boy.
Betty St. Clair was due to deliver Landon St. Clair on Jan. 12, but she went into labor early Saturday. She delivered the healthy baby at 1:21 a.m. Sunday morning.
Landon was the first baby born at Bristol Regional Medical in 2012.
The newborn is the fifth child for Betty and Brandon St. Clair. The young couple each has children from previous relationships and had another child together.
Betty and Brandon have been married for a year and a half. Brandon is a machinist, and Betty is a stay-at-home mother. The couple lives in Bristol, Va. Brandon was raised in Bristol, Va. and Betty spent most of her life in Lebanon, Va.
“It went pretty smooth,” Betty said of the pregnancy and the delivery.
The family stayed around the area during the holiday season and waited for the arrival of little Landon.
“I was too afraid to go anywhere,” Betty said.
By being the first baby of the New Year, the St. Clairs received a gift pack and other items from the hospital. They were given a car seat, stroller, clothes, rattle, diapers and piggy bank.
“We got a lot of extra stuff,” Brandon said. “Every little bit helps.”
Betty said the other children are excited to have a new baby brother, but she did not think they were interested in changing any diapers. The kids are too busy being kids, playing video games and riding bikes.
Brandon’s parents are helping to take care of the other children while the couple adjusts to raising the new baby. Betty said she will probably take Landon to visit her mother in a few months.
“My mother lives in North Carolina,” she said. “Once he gets big enough, I will take him to see her.”
