GLADE SPRING, Va. -- The theft of two pickup trucks within two weeks and break-ins in area homes has led deputies to arrest a local man, authorities said.
Kristopher Lance Brooks, 25, of Glove Drive, is charged with two counts of grand larceny, two counts of breaking and entering, one count of petit larceny and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to a written statement from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to Louie's Pizza Parlor in Glade Spring around 5:20 p.m. Thursday, because a 1999 Ford Ranger had been stolen from the parking lot of the restaurant, the statement said. Later that evening, deputies responding to a breaking and entering call on Hawthorne Drive in Meadowview, Va., saw a truck matching the Ranger's description sitting in the driveway. When they entered the home a man jumped out of a window and took off on foot.
A Virginia State Police Med-Flight unit was called to help find the man, who was found near an outbuilding in some thick brush, the statement said. A K-9 officer and his handler were also called to help with the search. Deputies arrested the man, later identified as Brooks, "after a brief struggle," the statement said.
Three of the charges stem from a Feb. 10 incident when another pickup truck was stolen, and another home in the community was broken into, the statement said.
Brooks is held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon without bond.
