On Saturday, Feb. 18 the Marion Police Department responded to a call to Marion Family Pharmacy where a woman was suspected shoplifting items from the store.
The woman was identified as Frances Reeves, who had left the pharmacy parking lot in a gray older model Ford Taurus with several other people inside, including a child. While responding to the call Marion police observed the vehicle as it turned into Walgreens. An officer identified Reeves in the back seat of this vehicle, and stopped the car.
During the investigation of the Marion Family Pharmacy shoplifting case, an employee from Walgreens came outside and notified law enforcement that Reeves had been in their store earlier that day and was suspected of stealing numerous items from there as well.
During the investigation, a methamphetamine lab was discovered in the Reeves' trunk. Items stolen from Walgreens were also recovered.
Reeves, 31, of Walton Road in Marion, was charged with shoplifting and has a court date of April 13.
One of the passengers in the vehicle, Travis Clark, 34, of Atkins, Va. was also arrested. Clark was charged with: manufacture methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II narcotic, possession of precursors to manufacture methamphetamine and child endangerment.
He was held without bond in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va. and a trial date has not yet been set.
The Marion Police Department and Virginia State Police conducted the investigation, which is ongoing. Additional charges are anticipated to be filed.
This is the fourth meth lab Marion Police Department has discovered since Jan. 1.
