A Bluff City, Tenn., woman faces reckless driving charges after the car she was driving veered off the road, went under a tree and smashed into a house.
Shannon Chapman, 30, was driving on Old Jonesboro Road when she wrecked just before 5 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Essex Drive, Virginia State Police Trooper J.B. Barlow said.
“She struck a sign and trees and ran into a house,” he said. “She kinda drove under it – went under the branches.”
About 45 minutes after the wreck, the hole in the home had been boarded over with old campaign signs, and Chapman’s 1997 Honda Civic was being towed. Tire tracks were visible in the mud, appearing to come from under the large evergreen tree.
Barlow said Chapman may have been driving too fast for the two-lane highway. In addition, rain throughout the afternoon made the roads slick.
The homeowner was not home when the wreck occurred. Barlow said he spoke with him on the phone, but until he returns, damage to the home cannot be assessed.
