Our fine Federal District Court Judge, James P. Jones, expressed his indignation that embezzler and former Postmaster Landore ‘gets to retire with a pension after stealing from the government.’ Far more appalling is the common practice whereby US Senators and Congressmen convicted of crimes still get to collect their lifetime pensions while in prisons and thereafter upon being released.
The list of such is long and includes former US Congressman, Edward Mezvinsky, whose network stole millions from many victims including me and my business associates. Although I never recovered any of the stolen money, I was able to help put Mezvinsky in prison where he continued to collect his congressional pension and still does after being released.
Even more appalling was the further victimization I suffered by the courts, both state and federal, in North Carolina where I sought justice and tried to recover the monies stolen from me. Those shameful courts and judges protected their hometown cronies, two of whom were hometown lawyers, and in his ruling Federal Judge Martin Reidinger audaciously held that “injustice is of no consequence.” Little wonder that one of them, Margaret Godley, boasted that ‘We control the judges in this city.’
We are most fortunate that our Virginia lawyers, judges, and courts are honorable and just – unlike their shameful North Carolina counterparts.
