Joe Tolbert’s letter of Feb. 2, 2012, was futile. Cal Thomas’ column of Jan. 22 was biblically correct on all points. There was no ‘theological speculation’ involved in Thomas’ column. Every statement can be confirmed by the Bible. Joe obviously believes that the finite wisdom of mankind is superior to the infinite wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. Biblically, Joe is caught in one of Satan’s favorite snares which is the ‘pride of life.’ 1 John 2:15-17.
God’s Word is the absolute truth in every area it addresses. God cannot lie. The problem is, unsaved people cannot understand the Bible because they lack the faith to believe that the Bible is true. The faith required to believe the Bible and get saved is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8-9. That faith comes through hearing God’s Word preached. 1 Corinthians 1:21, and Romans 10:17-18 (deaf people hear with their eyes; blind, deaf people hear through touch). Sadly, most people reject God’s gift of salvation because of unbelief. Matthew 7:13-14.
God holds every mentally competent person directly, and personally responsible and accountable for their actions. God says we are ‘without excuse’ for the decisions we make. Romans 1:20-32 makes this totally clear. God gives people, (i.e. nations), the kind of rulers which fit their lifestyle, as Thomas pointed out. God allows people free choice, but we reap what we sow. Galatians 6:7-8 It started with Eve in the Garden of Eden. Americans seem to like the socialistic agenda of Obama, so he could well be re-elected. 2nd Timothy 3:1-7. No matter, God is still in control. Psalm 76:10. ‘Thus saith the lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.’ Jeremiah 17:5. ‘Blessed is the nation whose God is the lord ...’ Psalm 33:12.
