The national media has recently reported that President Barack Obama sent Congress a budget that seeks to achieve about $4 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade through cuts in government spending and higher taxes on the wealthy.
Cut spending. Increase taxes. Cut spending. Increase taxes. Do all of our leaders have one track minds?
It is always prudent to review spending and reduce waste. It is not good management to cut spending straight across the board. That does not take into consideration the necessity of programs, whether they are national defense or the prevention of disease.
It is exactly the same with increasing taxes. It is not good management to increase taxes on just one group of taxpayers. It is good management to review the system and to make sure that all taxpayers are paying their fair share for our country. That is where the problem lies.
Our self absorbed leaders are totally overlooking the participants in our economy who pay no taxes. It is time to put an end to that gross miscarriage of economic policy and simple logic. It is time to return to making sure that all who use the American market to sell their products and services pay their fair share of the taxes that are necessary to operate this great country. That is how it used to be when we had a healthy and prosperous economy. Now, companies and factories in other countries are allowed take billions of dollars out of the American economy every day. They do not support American workers or pay taxes to support the operation of our national defense and other programs. It is time to put all participants in our economy back on equal footing.
It is time to return to the protective tariffs that were in place when America built the biggest and most prosperous economy in the world.
