On Dec. 15 a complaint was made with the Elizabethton Police Department in regards to check fraud.

The victim reported that she had check books stolen from her residence in Sullivan County and that check #1202 had been cashed at Food City, 920 Broad Street on Nov. 26 in the amount of $98.37, and her signature was forged on the check.  In the investigation it was discovered that the suspect had cashed the check and given an ID#  for identification. It was determined that the ID# given belonged to a Debbie Surcey of Johnson City TN.

Video surveillance footage from Food City was obtained and compared to Surcey's  ID photograph at which time it was confirmed that Surcey was responsilbe for cashing the stolen check.  She is charged with Forgery and has an April 16 court date in General Sessions Court.
