Dobyns-Bennett High School Marching Band (Kingsport, Tenn.) will be in for the thrill of a lifetime when they travel to New York City and join the line-up of the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Every year as the spectacular event steps off at the sound of Let’s Have a Parade, specialty groups create the fun-filled frenzy down the streets of Manhattan for more than 3.5 million spectators. Band members from Dobyns-Bennett will join the coveted line-up of giant balloons, fantastic floats, clowns and America’s best marching bands in the holiday spectacular.
The Dobyns-Bennett Marching Band were selected to be one of 10 bands in the 2011 Parade out of more than 150 applicants nationwide. Their superior musical ability, marching and performance skills won them a slot in the legendary Parade that will see them step into the line of march on Thursday, Nov. 24.
The Macy’s Parade takes more than a year to plan with bands chosen over 18 months before their Parade step-off. Each band application is thoroughly reviewed by the Macy’s Parade Band Committee, which yearly looks for bands that not only have great musical and marching ability, but also will be able to perform on the national stage provided by the Parade’s immense television audience.
With more than 50 million viewers across the country and more than 3.5 million spectators that line up along the streets of New York City each year, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national icon that has grown into a world-famous holiday event.
