Child support cases are up in Sullivan and other Tennessee counties

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Teresa Murray-Smith is an attorney in Blountville who handles many family cases including child support. She said on Tuesday that her office is seeing an increase in the number of child support cases and many times it's where the dad or mom is not paying their child support. She believes the economy is a big reason why.

“We are seeing more and more appointments coming in where people can't afford to hire a lawyer and they're in court because they are not paying their child support, not making at least an effort to pay their child support,”

Sullivan County court officials said the number of child support cases is up by about 3 percent over the past few years.
