Elizabethton veterinarian realizes solar goal

»  Comments | Post a Comment

One of the largest solar systems in the Tri-Cities region sits on top of a building that caters to cats and dogs.

The Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic installed a 54-panel system last November. Now, they sell 15,000 kilowatt hours of electricity to the Tennessee Valley Authority (valued at roughly $3,500) each year.

Dr. Michael Brown received a $26,000 reimbursement check from the Solar Installation Grant Program once the panels were installed.

He also receives a credit on his 2010 federal income tax return.

The panels will pay for themselves in about six years, Brown said.

"I think I see solar energy coming on, but I don't think it will ever get to the point that the average person puts it on his residence," he said.
