»  Comments | Post a Comment

The U.S. and Tennessee Departments of Forestry are currently fighting a forest fire in the Deacons Creek section of Washington County.

Crews were called to the scene of the fire around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon near the intersection of Deacons Creek Road and Creek Road.

Forestry crews said the fire had burned nearly 20 acres as of 9 p.m. Monday evening and could spread to as many as 125 acres.

The fire was 25% contained on Monday evening as firefighters continued to to cut fire lines to help protect the nearly 20 homes and other structures in that immediate area.

Crews suspended operations as darkness fell Monday night and planned to resume Tuesday morning.

Preliminary signs point to arson as the cause of the fire.
