Royal Mouldings brings more jobs to Bristol

A Canadian door-parts firm, owned by the same company that runs Royal Mouldings in Bristol, has opened a division inside Royal Mouldings’ Industrial Drive facility, a move that will immediately mean two to five new jobs and possibly more later.

Mark Fanelli, vice-president and general manager of Royal Window and Door Profiles, an Ontario company that makes non-assembled parts for storm, patio and other doors, said the company’s new Bristol division will play an important role in helping his firm establish its presence in the Southeast United States.

“We’ve been looking to expand into that area, and we’re hopeful that if the demand keeps growing, we could build up and add even more jobs in Bristol,” Fanelli said.

Fanelli said the Bristol division will receive and store non-assembled door parts from Royal Window’s plant in Montreal, Quebec, and then re-sell and distribute them to company clients throughout the Southeast region. He said it made logistical sense for the Bristol division to operate within Royal Mouldings, which makes vinyl moulding, among other plastic and synthetic products, because both Royal Window and Royal Mouldings are run by the Georgia Gulf Corp. based in Atlanta.

“It’s a great facility, and it allows us to share resources even though we’re separate units,” Fanelli said of the Royal Mouldings facility, which was expanded to 400,000 square feet, from 150,000 square feet, in 2007.

Fanelli said the new Bristol division already has hired two employees and will add a few more soon. He said the division has begun recruiting corporate customers in the Southeast U.S. for the door parts, which he said were tailored to meet weather demands in that specific region.

“They’re weather-resistant parts that can withstand the heavy winds, and even hurricane-like climate, that you can get in the Southeast,” Fanelli said. “So we’re hopeful we’ll be doing plenty of work out of Bristol.”

Bristol Deputy City Manager Michael Sparks praised Royal Window’s expansion into the city. “Anything that provides more jobs, more growth, is a real positive,” Sparks said Friday.

He said the move is a good fit with Royal Mouldings’ efforts, in recent years, to expand its ability to make or support new products.

“They’ve worked hard to position themselves to be ready when the [national] economy starts to take off again,” Sparks said. “And that’s going to be a huge benefit for Bristol as a whole in the future.”
