Undercover investigation results in 136 drug charges

BRISTOL, Va. – Tuesday evening, the Bristol Virginia Police Department started rounding up 49 people indicted by the grand jury on a combined total of 136 drug charges. One man was indicted on a gun charge because police said he was a convicted felon who sold a firearm to an undercover officer.

According to a news statement issued by the department, the charges come after six months of undercover investigations and search warrants. By 8 p.m. Tuesday, police had arrested six people and an additional five were already in jail.

Capt. Darrell Duty said officers will continue to collect them over the next several days and they expect a number of those charged to turn themselves in at the jail.

The following is a list of indictments issued by the grand jury:

 Johnny Buchanan, 53, Second Street in Bristol, Va., charged with distribution of cocaine.
 Tim Carter, 46, Blountville Boulevard in Blountville, Tenn., charged with two counts distribution of cocaine.
 Athena Cass, 29, Euclid Avenue in Bristol, Va., charged with distribution of methadone, conspiracy to distribute methadone, three counts distribution of cocaine and three counts conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
 Jason Clark, 29, Dunlap Street in Bristol, Va., charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
 Lisa Cook, 26, Potter Lane in Bristol, Tenn., charged with distribution of Roxicet and conspiracy to distribute Roxicet.
