Rape a crime of physical violence

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It was shocked to read your report about a person handing out leaflets that blamed a victim for bringing on rape because of their attire. I noticed it made it to the top of Google news. Hopefully it will spark some debate.
I understand your limited space to deliver the story, but if you have an opportunity to continue writing on this topic, it would be critical to address the fact that rape is not a sexual urge; it is an act of violence no different than any other act of physical violence. This fundamental fact negates the concept of whether person’s attire would “attract” someone to rape another person. Rape has nothing to do with sex, attraction, lust, or anything similar.
Thanks for getting your story out there. More people need to understand what this problem is really about!

People should follow standards

Recently a report came out in your paper about a young lady receiving a tract at a restaurant in Abingdon speaking against immodest apparel.
As a fervent Bible believer, I have to say that immodesty in clothing is a sin. Nudity is always wrong. Low-cut blouses, short skirts and tight pants are wrong in women’s clothing and men who wear shorts above the knees and no shirt on are also wrong. Men’s hair should be short and a woman’s hair long. Why? Because the inspired Scriptures teach us so. It can lead to rape in some cases, when people fail to fully dress right. I also believe people who rape others are wrong and deserve jail time or worse, for proper punishment. Sex saturates society in some books, literature, television and computers. Pornography should be outlawed in all the states! But godly saints believe in holiness in words, deeds, thoughts and dress appearance. Let’s not lighten up godly standards. We are all sinners in need of Christ and once we are Christians, we are commanded to be different from the world. Holy living is a daily choice and a daily lifestyle. We don’t hate people who dress like pagans, but we know right from wrong. We pray for others and witness gladly. We wish all people would go to heaven! We are not proud, arrogant or holier than thou, at all. We just believe the Bible strictly, not loosely. We fear the Almighty!
