A local grocery store chain and the Bristol Motor Speedway are teaming up to welcome the thousands of NASCAR fans arriving for this weekend’s race with a five-hour long celebration.
“We’re excited to once again be hosting Food City Race Night at Bristol Motor Speedway,” Food City President Steve Smith said in a written statement announcing the event.
Food City Race Night, beginning at 4 p.m. today, will have free food samplings, a video game tournament, and dozens of professional drivers to answer questions and sign autographs.
The free event also features live music, including special performances by SteelHeart, which will take the stage from 8 to 9 p.m., and many local artists.
Several current and legendary NASCAR drivers, including Sprint Cup driver Kevin Harvick, will be signing autographs for lines of fans. Other drivers will take part in a question-and-answer session with their fans, play a Nintendo Wii boxing tournament and take part in a Family Feud showdown.
Today’s event also will feature some warm weather and clear skies, according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature for today will be about 67 degrees, according to the weather service’s latest forecast. The low will be about 39 degrees.
Those temperatures are expected to stay in the region through Saturday, which will have a high of 67 degrees and a low of 44 degrees, but the clear skies will not linger.
The weather service is predicting a 20 percent chance of showers late Saturday, and a 70 percent chance of rain Sunday, when the temperatures will range between 37 and 59 degrees.
