App State student arrested for attempted robbery

An Appalachian State University student has been arrested for an attempted robbery at a grocery store.

According to the Boone Police Department, Christopher Collins Beauchamp, 22, of Charlotte, was charged with one felony count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in relation to the robbery that occurred on March 17 around 12:30 p.m.

Beauchamp is alleged to have demanded money from a checkout clerk at Lowes Foods at New Market Center by threatening that he had weapons. Upon questioning by the clerk and a manager, Beauchamp exited the store and left in a vehicle registered to him. The vehicle was later stopped by a North Carolina Highway Patrolman and Beauchamp was taken into custody.

Beauchamp was taken before a Watauga County magistrate where he was given a $20,000 secured bond with an April 23 court date.
