People who don't recognize risks of speeding don't realize potential harm, writer contends

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Statements by Bristol Motor Speedway representative Kevin Triplett indicate the track’s concern with area speed cameras. He is concerned with the fans enjoyment of the race weekend. Is he saying that the fans need to speed on our roads in order to enjoy the event?

Triplett advises that drivers may be snagged by the cameras. Well, why not if they are breaking the law? It would seem that Triplett feels that the fans do not understand the law and speeding. Do they come from areas that do not have speed regulations?

BMS appears to disregard the statements and advice from local law enforcement for the safety of attendees and our citizens. I do not understand why so many people in this region do not want to recognize the harm caused by speeding. Do they not understand the finality of death? Do they not understand the permanent pain and sadness for the families of those killed?

I have previously pointed out on this page that approximately 12,000 people are killed in the United States each year in crashes that involve speeding. In just five years this figure exceeds the number of troops we lost in the Vietnam War.
