Lies and fear meant to make people forget deficit and wars, writer contends

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Mr. Olsen wrote a letter a few weeks ago about the Tea Party. I believe that the American people are smarter than to fall for another political group trying to mask who they really are: Republicans. And the reason I think people won’t fall for this is because they remember eight years of George Bush and the Republican administration that left us in worse shape than when Clinton left office. People are smart and won’t forget that it was the conservatives that got the deficit to skyrocket and not even acknowledging the cost of two wars. I’m always amazed when I see the lies and fear that is generated when the conservatives are trying to get people to forget, when they’re trying to twist reality because they don’t want people to remember how we got in this position.

President Barack Obama has only been in office a little over one year; give him time! He is only one man trying to get Washington to work, rather than engage in all the political posturing designed to make people afraid. We are smarter than that. We are intelligent and we can see through sensationalism to make this country a better place for all Americans, not just the rich and the powerful.

Do we need to be afraid of government? Then why do we rely on government to make peace with the world? We need to live by the Golden Rule and we don’t need our politicians to make us fear each other or our government. We are better than that. Please don’t buy the hype of the tea party or of Glenn Beck. Please don’t fall for the hatred, lies and fear that he wants you to feel. You are better than that. Think for yourself. Give our president time to do his work. Give him time to get health care under control. Care about all people, not just yourself. Give our president a chance. He genuinely cares about this country of ours. And think without fear.
