Re-enactment of Civil War battle dropped

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Sponsors have dropped plans for a traditional re-enactment of the Civil War Battle of Blue Springs.

According to The Greeneville Sun, the event was to have been held either this year or in 2011.

Until last year, the town of Mosheim in Greene County had underwritten the re-enactment for 16 years. It was not held last year because of other commitments by a key organizer. This year Mosheim officials said they could no longer subsidize it because of the economy.

The 1863 battle was a Union victory for Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside as his forces cleared roads and passes to Virginia. There were more than 300 estimated casualties.
