Greeneville, Tenn. -- Greeneville and Greene County are now preparing to host a lot of visitors in the next couple years.
This morning, the Greene County Partnership announced that the Link Hills Country Club will host the 2011 and 2012 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Golf Championships. This means about 129 golfers, plus their coaches, trainers, families, and spectators will flood Greene County for a week in May each year.
The Partnership's Tourism Director Tammy Kinser expects the visitors to add a quarter million dollars to Greene County's economy.
"This is hopefully going to be opening the door to more tournaments," says Kinser, "not only with NAIA, but some of the other sports related organizations. I think getting our name out and being successful in something like this can show people... that, we can do this."
Today's announcement is the fruit of more than a year's worth of hard labor for folks in Greene County. The tournament could help fill between 800 and 900 hotel rooms with visitors each week. Local hospitality businesses look forward to increasing tourism growth.
