A Surgoinsville man turned himself in Tuesday, after police charged him with sending pornographic material to a ten year old boy. Surgoinsville Police Chief Jeff Hesoun says Rickey Dewayne Hickman sent messages containing a pornographic cartoon, as well a video of a man and woman having sex. Hesoun says the boy's school principal alerted police after other students told their parents the boy had shown them the videos on his phone. Hickman was a friend of the boy's family. Hesoun says the boy's mother knew the messages were on her son's phone, but thought he had deleted them. Hesoun says cell phones and cameras are making it harder to keep up with these types of situations. "With technology comes good and evil," says Hesoun, "and in this case, it appears that a poor choice was made."
Hickman is charged with transferring pornographic material to a minor, which is a misdemeanor charge. He was released on bond after turning himself in Tuesday.
