JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Kickball is back in a big way – across the country, and here in Johnson City.

“Every time I’ve mentioned kickball to someone, it elicits this great response,” said Mayor Jane M. Myron. “It’s like chicken ‘n’ dumplin’s – it’s familiar. Everybody remembers it and has fond memories of it.”

Registration is under way now for the City’s Parks and Recreation youth kickball league. Co-ed divisions for ages 6-7 and 8-9 are offered. The age cutoff date is as of Sept. 30, 2009.

“Kickball is such a great activity because it’s inclusive of both boys and girls, it doesn’t require a special field or equipment, and anyone – regardless of athletic skill level – can play. Even me!” Myron said.

Registration forms are available at Johnson City Schools, the Winged Deer Park Administrative Office, and the Athletic Office at the Winged Deer Park Tower. Registration fees must be paid at the time of registration. Fees are: $25 per player for Johnson City residents, $30 per player for non-City residents. All registration forms must be returned to the Athletic Office at the Winged Deer Park Tower by the Monday, March 15 deadline.

For more information, please call the Athletic Office at 283-5822.
